María Marcela Chacón Castro

Marcela is a lawyer and notary graduated from the University of Costa Rica. She has a specialty in public security from the Open University of Cataluña and another in citizen security with a focus on gender awarded by UNDP.
She has worked for more than 20 years on issues of public security at national and international levels and more recently on matters related to environmental security. She was vice minister of Public Security (2008–2010), and vice minister of the Ministry of Interior and Police (2011–2013). She served as member of the Maritime Security Council in the previous government. She also collaborated in the development of the Marine Control and Surveillance Strategy for Forever Costa Rica and has made presentations at various international forums.
