The Forever Costa Rica Association is a nonprofit organization created in 2010. Its mission is to conserve terrestrial and marine ecosystems in perpetuity through the management of environmental funds and alliances with governments, the private sector, and civil society.
It pursues its mission by mobilizing resources from donors – mainly international organizations and private foundations – and channeling them to conservation programs.
The three funds are composed of endowments and sinking funds. In terms of our main resources, we preserve them by managing the investment portfolio with clearly established guidelines, while using interest income to fund conservation projects. This guarantees permanent conservation financing.
The Association offers technical assistance to improve all conservation processes that it finances in order to guarantee that all program investments are efficient and effective. Besides, we seek to implement all legal requirements and donor needs, to comply with previously defined uses of the funds.
All projects supported by FCRA must meet our mission and the country’s conservation priorities, established under the Convention on Biological Diversity and the National Biodiversity Strategy.
We finance conservation by means of:
- Call for proposals issued in conjunction with the Costa Rican government under the auspices of the FCRP, which implements a five-year plan to define national conservation priorities. Funds from the FCRT and the Second Swap finance these proposals.
- Calls for proposals that invite non governamental organizations to strengthen community wellbeing for tropical forest conservation. These are financed with funds from the First Swap.
- Conservation innovation with strategic support for conservation actions that contribute to the organization’s mission, including initiatives in the Eastern Tropical Pacific ecoregion.
